Peru. Puerto Maldonado.

2013 Nov. Amazon Rainforest. Puerto Maldonado.

Day 1

Flew in to Puerto Maldonado from Cusco. We checked-in at the Butterfly House, then a 10 minute transfer to the Boarding Wharf for a 45-minute boat transfer along the river to our accommodation Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion. I had always wanted to visit the amazon after seeing so many documentaries on National Geographic. Not knowing what to expect, I was so excited to be here in the amazon jungle!

The Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción is located deep in the heart of Amazon, between Tambopata National Reserve and the shores of Madre de Dios River.

Most of the animals are active at night and the jungle comes alive after sunset. Night in the amazon rainforest in Puerto Maldonado was a natural symphony of insects, birds and wildlife in the wilderness, as nocturnal animals send their piercing calls across the tree canopy. It was a really interesting experience living in the jungle lodge, and somehow I missed my dear army reservist buddies.
