六十石山。赤科山。金针花季。

2016 Aug. Taiwan. Hualien. Liushidanshan (Fuli). Chikeshan (Yuli).

夏日炎炎，也是玉里赤柯山及富里六十石山金针花盛开的季节。一片片黃澄澄的金針花海衬着蓝天白云，在艳阳的辉映下随风摇曳生姿，景致优美。因为是临时决定的行程，订不到玉里的住宿，最后决定住在瑞穗再骑机车前往。建议要是订得到住宿的话，住在玉里会比较近，也比较方便。

August and September is the flowering season to visit high-mountain daylilies at Chihke Mountain (Yuli Township) and Sixty-Stone Mountain (Fuli Township), both located in Hualien County. The mountains are covered in a sea of golden flowers, and visitors from everywhere brave the summer heat to relish the beautiful scene of the sun shining on the daylilies.

台中。

不算是到台中玩，只是临时跟着朋友搭高铁去随便逛逛。搭火车，当然要吃便当！除了便当，更让我兴奋的是刚刚在新加坡上市可是一上架就被扫空，想买也买不到的超夯 “纯粹.喝” 饮料。买了两瓶，试过后，真的好喝，比起市面上的其他茶饮选择，茶味更香更浓郁。台湾的口味选择多，价钱合理。新加坡的定价足足贵了三倍！

台北。乌来。

我在台北住的地方，可以搭公车849号直达终点站烏來，非常方便。想要避开城市的喧嚣，找个地方透透气，不到一个小时就能进到山里享受大自然的山林，所以我蛮常来的。乌来地方不大，可以逛老街吃山菜，到溪边泡脚玩水，还有我的最爱。。。在山里泡温泉！第一次在大热天里泡温泉，嗯，还是天气冷的时候泡比较爽。

Wulai is a place for hot springs about an hour away from Taipei City. It is a convenient and quick getaway from the city centre, and a direct public bus 849 will take you to the Old Street of Wulai, where you can enjoy the aboriginal cuisine, and the natural beauty of the forested hills and streams.

Penang. Malaysia.

Penang is THE street food and hawker fare paradise. There are so many famous and yummilicious stalls that you have to be strategic on your choices. There is only so much you can stuff into your stomach and you do not want to step on a landmine and waste space on mediocre food. Exploring the rich cultural heritage of Georgetown and the interesting street art by Ernest Zacharevic also made good exercise to burn off some calories to get yourself ready for the next meal. I love visiting Penang, and my itinerary is to eat, and eat, and maybe walk a little, so that I can eat again.

Most of the stalls I visited this time are already famous and need little introduction. You can find on the internet countless blogs and top 10 lists on what is the best. Krabi. Thailand.

2016 Jul. Aonang Beach in Krabi & Phi Phi Islands.

Phi Phi Islands in Krabi become famous after Leonardo Dicaprio’s movie The Beach, and is now a hugely popular beach destination. It was a spontaneous decision to go on a short lazy getaway to Krabi, as it is easily accessible and reasonable affordable from Singapore. Budget airline TigerAir has promotion and decent pricing if you book at the right time in advance. We chose to stay in Aonang, which is close to many shops and restaurants, and has easy access to island hopping.

Peru. Arequipa.

2013 Nov. Arequipa.

Took a 1.5hr domestic flight from Lima to Arequipa. Arequipa is Peru’s second most important city (after Lima), and second most popular among tourists (after Cuzco). The city centre is a UNESCO world heritage site, and we were lucky to have a university professor who works part time as a tour guide to give us a very detailed introduction of Arequipa. Arequipa is an example of Spanish and mestizo culture developed in Peru. There are no Inca artifacts or ruins in the city.

Probably need local help to identify Misti, Chachani and PichuPichu, the three volcanoes surrounding the city. Cannot remember which one this is. 🙂

Peru. Lima.

2013 Nov. Peru. Lima.

Flew in to Lima from Singapore via Amsterdam. The most direct flight was operated by KLM with transit in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, one of the nicer airports in Europe. Other choices involved at least 2 transits and would be painful to travel. We arrived and stayed in Miraflores in Lima.

Dinner was at La Lucha upon arrival, an extremely popular Peruvian fast food joint with great vibes. Casual and fast service for some great sandwiches and juices. It is open nearly all day adding to its street food like charm. I don’t speak Spanish but can feel that the staff were nice and friendly. Definite worth a visit while in Lima.

The French Laundry.

2016 May. Yountville, Napa Valley, California.

Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry in Yountville, Napa Valley is legendary and every foodie’s dream to dine and experience once a lifetime. Securing a reservation is almost impossible and there are websites teaching you how to up your chances. Basically you have to time exactly the hour/minute/second when they start taking reservation a month prior, and keep calling, regardless of the timezone you are in, then pray very hard that if the line ever gets connected, there is still a table opening. Clearly, I was the lazy bum riding on my dining companion’s hard work. 🙂

The experience was as perfect as it can get. Our lunch was exquisite, worthy of all the accolades and rave reviews. Fresh, flavourful, and delightful to the senses and tastebuds, with non of those pretentious molecular gastronomy gimmicks. World class indeed, extremely impressed! I am thinking the food is so wonderful, words alone would not do it any justice, so I will just let the photos do the work.

Service was impeccable, perfect throughout.

California. San Francisco.

San Francisco was the last stop of my 3-week road trip. I have been to SF many times, so not very inspired to take a lot of touristy pictures, despite revisiting many touristy places to relive my memories.

2016 May. Marshall. Point Reyes. Mt Tamalpais. Sausalito.

Sonoma Coast Beach has beautiful coastal views along the scenic drive.

Hog Island Oyster Company is located in Marshall, by the Tomales Bay. The Boat Oyster Bar is an outdoor cafe at Hog Island Oyster Farm. Raw and BBQ oysters, local breads, cheeses, and beverages are served at communal tables alongside the bay. Open from 11am to 5pm daily, reservation is required especially Fri-Mon, or the wait could be quite long. Great relaxed ambience, and the oysters are so yum yum yummy! BBQ oysters was a surprise hit, juicy and flavourful and will have you ask for more after you tried. We had to order extra serving as it was fantastic!
