2013 Nov. Paracas. Nazca Lines.
A long bumpy bus ride took us to Paracas, nearby to Ica where we took a flight tour to see the Nazca Lines. It was a nice way to see the country. The landscape was austere and bare for most part, where desert-like land meets the sea. Pleasantly surprised when we reach our hotel La Hacienda Bahía Paracas, it was a beautiful resort in the middle of nowhere. 🙂
Nazca Lines had always been a mystery and out-of-this-world phenomena. Never thought I would get to see it in person. So excited! Btw, the small propeller flight outrightly “discriminate” against fat people, if you weigh beyond 90kg, you have to pay more or even purchase an extra ticket. 🙂
Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 500 BC and 500 AD. The designs are shallow lines made in the ground by removing reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish/grayish ground beneath. Due to its isolation and the dry, windless, and stable climate, the lines have mostly been naturally preserved.
